Intrauterine insemination (after IVF return or insemination IUI) Is it advisable to wait and lie or get up and leave:
A study by the University of Hangzhou, Department of Gynecology and Fertility of Traditional Chinese Medicine (China) examined whether a 20-minute rest after intrauterine insemination (embryo transfer after IVF or insemination IUI) improves the chances of pregnancy, as opposed to immediately leaving after egg retrieval.
The study examined:
457 couples referred to insemination (IVF or IUI) due to sperm counts and problems of low ovarian reserve, and high FSH hormone. The couples were divided into two groups:
- Group 1 where women stayed for 20 minutes resting after intrauterine insemination.
- Compared to group 2 where the women left immediately after intrauterine insemination.
The results:
It was found that the pregnancy rate was high in the group which rested for 20 minutes after fertilization.
The results were very significant: 32% vs. 14%.
The researchers conclude that a 20-minute rest should be offered after intrauterine insemination (IVF or IUI) rather than prompting the woman to hurry and leave.
