Endometriosis in Chinese medicine
Endometriosis is expansion of the endometrium which causes fertility problems, ovarian cysts and damage to internal organs. The symptoms are usually severe pain during menstruation, infertility and decrease in the quality of life.
Endometriosis is caused by menstrual bleeding that flow “back” toward the pelvis, so that some of the menstruation blood and the tissue that lines the uterus return to the fallopian tubes and then takes root in the pelvis tissue and starts to grow.
During menstruation, the endometrium tissue that forms the lining of the uterus grows inside the uterus, and when this endometrium tissue starts to grow outside of the uterus – this condition called endometriosis.
Symptoms that may accrue:
- Worse menstruation pain from one year to another.
- Pain during or after sexual intercourse.
- Pain in the lower abdomen, pelvis and lower back sometimes before and during menstruation.
- Pain during urination.
- Heavy bleeding during menstruation.
- Bleeding between periods.
- Infertility (after trying to conceive for a year).
- Rectal bleeding during menstruation.
- Gastrointestinal disorders: constipation, pain during bowel movements and diarrhea during the menstruation.
Chinese medicine and Endometriosis:
Chinese medicine incorporates acupuncture, nutrition, moxibustion and herbal medicine. Acupuncture soothes, relieves pain, removes heat and stimulates. The Chinese herbs are put together specifically for the patient depending the diagnosis and are taken on a daily basis to strengthen and support the acupuncture treatment for better results. The Chinese therapy is used as a complementary and supporting treatment to the Western treatment.
