Infertility by the Chinese medicine

Chinese Medicine has the ability to assist effectively in the field of gynecology and reproductive medicine. The Chinese view the human body is as an organic whole. The body parts are not separated and each of them has a meaningful part of the whole complex. When the organs are functioning properly, order and balance is maintained  and the individual is enjoying good health. However, when the balance is lost from an internal reason and / or any external reason sickness appears.

In recent years there has been an increase in the number of couples undergoing fertility treatments through Western medicine, as well as Chinese fertility treatments.

Fertility treatments using Chinese Medicine:

Chinese medicine is a natural, healthy, non-invasive solution without side effects. The Chinese therapist’s goal is to help restore the balance and strength of the person’s health and guide them towards a healthy, successful and balanced pregnancy.

Chinese medicine describes the female reproductive system as a weave of energy systems. Every energetic system has a complementary organ and hormonal responses. The energetic web responds to stress, chemicals, lack of sufficient exercise, imbalanced diet and extreme emotional reactions.

During the process of fertilization sperm and egg meet and unites. The success of this union depends on the health of both partners.

According to the Chinese philosophy, it is recommended that each couple will be undergo diagnosis and treatment before they start trying to conceive. During this time the couple will be diagnosed using the tools of Chinese medicine, and according the diagnosis finding and necessity, the couple will be treated in order to balance their health preconception. Only after achieving balance the Chinese therapist will recommend to start trying to conceive. Such preliminary preparation of the body enables quick conception, a healthy pregnancy and birth of a healthy baby.

Chinese medicine diagnosis:

The main diagnosis tools of Chinese medicine are: pulse, tongue and questioning. In diagnosis of infertility and gynecological treatments the therapist also will monitor the woman’s body temperature, hormonal profile, blood tests, X-ray and ultrasound scans if needed and very meticulous attention will be given to the nature of her menstrual cycle. All these parameters mentioned will be used to determine the state of health of the woman and/or man.

Based on all the information which was collected the therapist will determine the Chinese diagnosis for the imbalance in the patient, including the reason for infertility of the woman and/or man. The therapist will then determine a treatment plan which would combine acupuncture, Chinese herbs, moxibustion and nutrition recommendations to improve the chances of fertilization and pregnancy.

What Chinese medicine can do to help fertility problems:

  • Chinese therapy does not focus exclusively on symptoms or the disease. Chinese medicine promotes the healing powers of the body and allows paying attention to the root of the problem rather than just its symptoms.
  • The women will feel much less to no side effects resulting from the accumulative toxicity of hormonal treatments.
  • The Chinese treatment will strengthen the quality of sperm greatly and/or egg quality of the patient.
  • Reduces the risk of ectopic pregnancy.

Unfortunately some patients who achieve fertilization using IVF methods repeatedly fail to achieve implantation and development of a healthy pregnancy. This is because the overall health condition of both prospective parents does not allow the proper development of the fetus. Chinese medicine patients are taking advantage of better overall health and a balanced endocrine system arising from the treatment using acupuncture and herbs. As a result pregnancy is achieved easier and it is easier for the body to sustain it.

For an IVF treatment to be successful it is necessary to have fertilized egg in appropriate environment in which the fertilized egg can take root and continue normal embryonic development. Chinese medicine treatments supports the implantation process, strengthen the endometrium to be more productive, fertile and warmer for conception.

The use of fertility treatments in Chinese medicine alongside Western treatments currently yielding impressive and encouraging results.

Combining the two methods of treatments, IVF and acupuncture, brings a success rate of 45% compared with 25% success when undergoing IVF treatment without acupuncture.

How to integrate both methods?

After the Chinese diagnosis has been established while carefully integrating with the Western diagnosis, the therapist will establish a treatment protocol for the patients consisting of acupuncture, Chinese herbs and nutrition recommendations. If necessary Western treatments will be used alongside Chinese treatments.

It is important to note that the Chinese medicine therapist considers the energetic effect of the hormonal therapy on the female body. the combination between the two therapies improves the implementation chances of the fetus and reduces the side effects of Western medicines.

Benefits of treating infertility using Chinese medicine:

  • It has been proven that acupuncture improves ovarian response and egg quality. They have a beneficial effect on the blood flow to the uterus, improving the thickness of the endometrium and enabling the fetus a better environment to develop in. They also help relax the the uterus muscles which prevents muscle contraction and fetal damage.
  • Chinese medicine improves the blood circulation in the body and removes qi blockages or stagnation. By doing so it prevents the fallopian tubes from being blocked, fibroids and cysts from interfering with the implantation and fetal development.
  • Herbal medicine has great potential in reducing the risk of miscarriage.
  • Combined treatment of herbs and acupuncture helps balance the endocrine response to stimulation of the hypothalamus, and improving the patient’s fertility potential by regulating the endocrine system and ovarian function that resulted in better egg quality.
  • Regulates the menstrual cycle and hormonal balance and bring it into a state which allows natural and spontaneous fertilization.
  • Chinese medicine greatly helps reduce stress and anxiety levels which have a negative impact on fertility.
  • Among men it has been shown that acupuncture and Chinese herbs have significantly improved the number of normal sperm cells and their motility. The Chinese medicine therapist will base the treatment plan on the male semen test results to tailor the appropriate treatment given.
